Colonel's Considerations Day 3 - That's my game

On the tenth hole today, I snuck a ball through the trees to the left of the tee box and ended up center of the fairway. That's my game. I made that clear after I hit that shot, and Martha said that's what I could name my blog entry tonight. So I did.

So there's really not that much to talk about today. No alligators. We went out early afternoon to play a practice round. Practice we did. Before we teed off, Martha said that if we didn't feel as if we had played 36 holes at the end of our 18 hole round then we weren't practicing hard enough. It definitely felt like at least 36 holes if not more - even though the round was only just over four and a half hours long.

So according to Martha, we played a professional style practice round. If you don't know what that looks like here's a little description... The goal is to hit as many shots as you can from as many different positions on the course, while at the sama time not holding up the group behind you. On the tee and on the fairway you take an extra shot if you want to experiment with different strategies or if you hit a bad shot first time around, but on the greens is when it gets crazy - there were paint marks on the spots where the pins positions will be all week, so Martha put the van keys on one mark, her water bottle on anather and her rangefinder on the last one, and all five of us hit as many chips, pitches (I almost landed the ball on my teammate's heads multiple times), bunker shots and putts to the marks as we could before the group behind us caught up. Sorry to all my fans who are reading this, I didn't keep score, but it was an incredibly productive (and exhausting) practice.

Afterwards we got sraight into dinner; Nick, Dan and I successfully grilled some chicken, and Jordan prepared salad and a beans and rice dish to go with it, hit the spot after such a tiring day. Then we've just been chillin' the rest of the evening, time's really flown by... we watched the movie "Miracle" tonight, we're hoping it brings us some inspiration for the tournament tomorrow...

Ooh, on Day 1 I promised you I'd explain Bochi Ball Golf, but I forgot until now - here goes. So Matt Butler and I were on the putting green on Tuesday, and we pretty much just started playing it on a whim, and I'm pretty sure it's not too long before it's a sensation. The rules are the same pretty much as Bochi Ball (or Petanque/Boules for my French audience): you choose a hole (like the jack) and you and your opponent hit alternating putts at the hole, each played hitting three putts in total. The played with the closest putt wins, and if they have the two closest they get two points, and the three closest they get three points... you can hit other balls when you putt, and the balls need to stay where they end up after being hit. Getting the putt in the hole is the best result, and if you and your opponent each get it in it's a tie, but if a player has more balls in the hole than they're opponent they win the hole... trust me, it's really fun. Matt Butler out-Italianed me in our match, he ended up winning 27-20 (it was a long game). I don't think we'll get to play again this week since the putting green is swamped with players from 54 different teams...

Cool, I'm gonna head to bed and get some sleep for the tournament tomorrow. We'll see tomorrow if the movie was inspirational enough...
